It's Raining Sand!

In the last few days the wind has been coming from the east, off the deserts of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and who knows, maybe Iraq. You can tell from our window where the wind is coming from because when it comes from the East there are no waves on the Mediterranean Sea. It has been cloudy and yesterday I noticed a yellowish cast to the clouds.

The day before yesterday I took the car to the car wash. What a joy to have a clean car here! There is a lot of dust around, so cars get dirty quickly. And then it rained! Not for long, for less that 3 minutes, actually, just a very brief shower. Not long enough to settle the dust.

But it must have rained sand. No kidding -- the beautiful clean car was covered with mud! And everyone else's car too, and leaves, and stairs, and bannisters, and I guess everything that was out in the rain during those three minutes!!

I had known that when it rains the cars end up dirty, but I thought it was because the car was dirty and the rain made it bunch up so you could see the dirt better. No, that's not what happens. What happens is that it rains sand!!! Very fine sand in the air, off the deserts of wherever, brought down by the rain.

You have to laugh.....

:-) Pat
